Local defect correction with slanting grids
The local defect correction (LDC) method is used to solve a convection-diffusion-reaction problem that contains a high activity region in a relatively small part of the domain. The improvement of the solution on a coarse grid is obtained by introducing a correction term computed from a local fine grid solution. This paper studies problems where the high activity region is covered with a rectang...
متن کاملLocal Defect Correction Techniques Applied to a Combustion Problem
The standard local defect correction (LDC) method has been extended to include multilevel adaptive gridding, domain decomposition, and regridding. The domain decomposition algorithm provides a natural route for parallelization by employing many small tensor-product grids, rather than a single large unstructured grid. The algorithm is applied to a laminar Bunsen flame with one-step chemistry.
متن کاملLocal Defect Correction Methods for the Bellman Equation
We present a multi level method for the Bellman equation of optimal control theory. The so called local defect correction (LDC) method uses a local ne grid to correct the solution in a critical area on the coarse grid. We formulate the method assuming a deterministic state equation and prove convergence and consistency results. Numerical results show, that the LDC method provides an accurate so...
متن کاملLocal defect correction in numerical simulation of surface remelting
We study the efficient numerical simulation of laser surface remelting, a process to improve the surface quality of steel components. To this end we use adaptive grids, which are well-suited for problems with moving heat sources. To account for the local high activity due to the heat source, we introduce local uniform grids and couple the solutions on the global coarse and local fine grids usin...
متن کاملSuperconvergent Defect Correction Algorithms
In this paper we discuss several variants of the acceleration technique known as Iterated Defect Correction (IDeC) for the numerical solution of initial value problems for ODEs. A first approximation, computed by a low order basic method, is iteratively improved to obtain higher order solutions. We propose new versions of the IDeC algorithm with maximal achievable (super-)convergence order twic...
